HEADS UP
Protect your vacuum breaker.
Please wrap the vacuum breaker with an insulating material, and then cover that
with a plastic bag. If you do a good job of wrapping, it should be protected
even if the over night temperatures drop to the low
twenties. In any event, the system must be winterized with a compressor to
protect it from freezing over the winter. Please call as soon as possible so we
can get you on the schedule. If you have already gotten
on the schedule, there is no need to call again.
Please remember that protecting the
vacuum breaker is your responsibility until we winterize.
It costs $65.00 to have us winterize your system. With a little care, a
sprinkler system can last for 30 years
or more. Please remember, we have been installing and caring for lawn sprinklers
for over 27 years. We
will do it right. Don't be tempted by a cheep price offered by a stranger. It
could cost you several hundred
dollars to repair your system in the spring, if it was not properly winterized.
Don't take the risk.
We started our winterizing on October 2. That will give you a
chance to give your thirsty lawn
a good drink before we turn off the water for the season. A little extra water
during the cool fall season can
go a long way in repairing lawns damaged by water restrictions. Please call
303-341-5651 at your earliest
convenience to let us know your scheduling preference.
Helpful hints
• You don't have to be home to have us winterize your system if we have access
to your valve
boxes and you have turned the water to the system off before we get there.
• We left a letter with you when we installed your system that explains how to
turn your system
off. If you no longer have the letter or if we did not install your system, call
the office at 303-341-5651 and we will send you one.
• If you have a pet that might get loose or be frightened by the noise of the
compressor, let us know
so we can make arrangements with you.
• If you have a hose bib in a garden, which is part of the sprinkler system,
open the hose bib when
you turn the water off to the sprinkler system.
• If our voicemail is full when you call, please call back or go to our
Form page and fill in the information. It will submit an
email to us at Lukes@hughes.net.
• Contact us as soon as possible. Due to heavy call volume, we may not return
your call until we
have entered your request in the computer, printed the work order and put you on
the schedule.
We will call you two to three days before you are scheduled for service so that
you will have
plenty of time to water one last time and turn off the water to the system.
Please water your trees and shrubs!
Leaves with scorched edges, premature fall color and branches that
die back for no apparent reason are all
signs that your valuable landscaping plants need water. The water restrictions
in combination with a very
dry winter and high temperatures this summer already put Colorado's landscapes
under stress. The best way to water your trees is to use a deep root feeder. Water in several
places from the trunk out
past the drip line of the tree. Use low pressure, watering to a depth of one
foot, using only water (no
fertilizer, please) and do not force the root feeder into the ground. If you hit
something hard, it is probably
a root or a sprinkler pipe. Water each spot for 15 to 20 minutes. For newer
trees, be sure to water just
outside the root ball. For older trees, most of the roots that carry water to
the rest of the tree are closer to the drip line of the tree.
If you don't have a root feeder, you can water with a hose. Turn the pressure
down so the water just
dribbles out. Locate it close to the trunk, then move it about 2 feet every 30
minutes toward the drip line.
This is also a good way to water shrubs. You should water this way about twice a
month. I know all this is time consuming, but you only have to water the plants you want to live.
Money saving ideas
-
Be sure to disconnect any garden hoses after each use this time of year so that
your outside
faucets don't freeze.
-
We are offering special incentives on new sprinkler systems that we install
between now and the
end of the year. You can save hundreds of dollars by replacing an old worn out
system, by
automating an old manual system or by having a new system installed in a second
home.
-
If you recommend us to a friend who buys a sprinkler system from us, we will
save your friend
money and we will send you 4 coupons worth $25.00 each toward any service we
supply to you.
-
We can save you money this year on the cost of reducing the size of your lawn.
We can install
stone patios, paths or sitting areas. They are an attractive addition to your
landscaping and can
reduce the cost of watering next year.
-
Use a product like REVIVE on your lawn. It saves money on water by allowing the
water to go
deeper into the soil.
-
Aerate your lawn in the spring and fall and use organic fertilizers that will
improve your soil's
water-holding capacity.
Thank you for your business. Sincerely,
Luke Usefara LUKE'S SPRINKLERS & LANDSCAPING
